Went into my local music store and came across one of these
http://www.ashtonmusic.com.au/productVi ... ductID=259

an ashton 12 string. i was really surprised at the quality for a £159 12 string. SO i bought it. Anyone on the look out for a not too expensive 12 string give them a try.

an excellent choice my friend

i'm chiefly a tanglewood man, but these small-bodied ashtons are a good choice, certainly something i would consider in the future when the money's right.

Hi, You get a nice rich sound out of your 12 string. How do you mic it up?

it was recorded at digital image in chesterfield by Glenn who is a fantastic and ultra-sensitive sound engineer, my guitar is a new model electro-acoustic so it is plugged in and miked up simultaneously on the recordings, no idea what the mic was though i'm afraid, i just use whatever sounds good or good enough as i don't record at home, i just write the songs, play and sing them and go to a studio and glenn has some superb recording equipment.

Alreyt Luke,

Whereabouts is digital image in Chesterfield? USed to live there but don't recall Digital Image. What are the prices/equipment like? What's the studio like?

we'll be looking to record somewhere when I'm back up in Sheffield in June.

Cheers

have a shufty here mate:

http://www.di-recordingstudios.co.uk/

it is on park road, right by queen's park. It is a small studio so ideal for solo musicians, rather than bands, £20 to £25 per hour generally, i generally blast through my songs with no fucking about or arsing about when recording, so last time did 10 tracks in 5 hours, for a hundred squid. The equipment is top rate, as good as you would expect.
