Hi, Cheap Guitars are they just a waste of money or ideal project material?
I purchased myself a Stagg L/H Butterscotch Tele http://www.staggmusic.com/products/prod ... &oneid=487 I paid trade+VAT 54 quid !! silly money :*:

Now, I have changed the pickups for a Wilkinson set 40 quid ebay , also changed the bridge, electrics, machine heads, which I had in the workshop as spares from other builds.
Total cost 94 pounds. It plays very well...........too well and sounds bloody nice, it feels and sounds as good a top end squire.
I am gonna gig this next weekend a see how it goes, but 90 quid for a guitar with good components, I even stuck an old set of Fender ping tuners on it.
Next time I'll get a strat and see how that works out.

I got the Squier 51' on the right from Sound Control for £80 in the sale, should be around £120, but they'd reduced it cos theres a couple of dents on the back of the neck (hardly noticable).
i got a new tortie pickguard from GfS, and i'm gonna replace the pickups for a Lipstick in the neck, and a GFS filtertron style in the bridge.
not a bad little project!

Stagg... better than one might think.

The Stagg Tele, new pups, saddles, fender tuners, electrics nice big CTS pots...and a bit of fret work. Very nice very Telecaster. Very cheap less than a ton with mods.
I am going to get another bridge and drill the body for stringing to add some sustain. A cracker. :D

a mate found this in a skip, and passed on to me & me dad, okay it was in a worse state..........we did it up last year, new bridge / tailpiece, neck reset, rust taken off frets, pickup fitted etc......plays really nice, it was featured in the Guitar Buyer mag a few months ago as we were trying to find out what make it is as there's no markings on the guitar.
turns out to be a little known Colleti Archtop - colletti's were brought over from Eastern Europe back in the 60's they did copies of various guitars, this is an attempt at a Hofner.
not bad for nowt!!

On a cautionary note, our bass player who plays lead in a blues band, was playing a Tele that he paid about £30 for on Ebay and then did up...and it literally fell in two mid song....one of the funniest things I've seen for a long time.

I would also like to know where this skip is.

While we might be amazed at someone finding a Gibson in a skip, just think of all those Gibsons that didnt get found in skips and are now landfill.

The only bit of musical kit I found in a skip, was a blown guitar combo, which I turned into a speaker cabinet.
