I've got a tanglewood like this - Image

Mine has a floating bridge to enable some good old fashioned whammy, but whenever I restring it, it pulls the bridge right up and looks odd. Then for good measure it promptly goes out of tune for approximately 6 months until overnight it decides to stay tuned.

Any suggestions on what i'm doing wrong? - I shall I throw it in the Trent?

I'm sick to shit of it...ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It is where to start

1 - make sure you use the same guage of strings i.e. 9's or 10's
2 - if it is pulling the bridge up you can tighten the screws to hold down tremelo - or put extra springs in to hold bridge down. or lock the tremelo so that it will not move - will help the guitar stay in tune.
3 - always stretch the strings when re- stringing - this helps them settle much quicker and buy decent strings.

If the bridge pulls up it is likely that the string tension is different from before which is either tuning too high or thicker strings. also it changes the intonation of the guitar slightly.

Hope this helps

Scott

Hi, from the image the guitar has a two pivot vibrato, Scott is right on about more spring tension tighten the existing screws and or add more springs, you can shorten the existing springs to add more tension.

I do this http://www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/blocktremolo.htm with all my fender vibratos.
You could by a hard tail bridge or go for a floyd rose job.
