Hi I need to re-tube my pre-Amp and my black finger compressor both use 12AX7 tubes, Would like to try a better quality than stock, but there is sooooooo much choice out there, My comp has 2 EHX And my Pre-amp runs two Ruby tubes. I could to with a nudge in the right direction. Cheers P.

I like Sovtek ones because they're cheap and they start to sound like they're dying earlier so you get that fantastic growl! Just my opinion mate. :thumright:

"... However, tubes have a distinct tone that will be present whether you are using it in a preamp, mic, etc.
Here's a quick breakdown of some of the most popular:

12AX7:
60's Mullard= dark w/ great midrange detail.
Telefunken= tremendous detail, deep bass, shimmering highs, dynamics.
1950s RCA= smooth, bold bass, midrange depth.
Amperex Bugle Boy= good in every aspect. In between an RCA and a Telefunken."
