anyone who has a valve amp and wants to get cheap replacement vlaves should check out this place, don't think many guitarists have found it out yet, as it's mainly used by valve radio enthusiasts...picked up a set for my trusty Harmony 8 watt amp, got a 6V6GT, 5Y3 WGT, and a 6AT6 for just over 25 quid. they do all the big names too, and have a lot of hard to find valves too.
well worth a look.

Nice find, I've been using Watford Valves, Everything in my current amps is now JJ/Tesla. Just remember to re-bias when changing Power valves.

Chicago made Harmony amp..cant remember the Model, but it's from the 50's and got a Jensen speaker in, pushes out about 10 watts max, but sounds great for small gigs. got a GE 6V6, RCA 5Y3 and an Electronic 6AT6, theres also a Mullard rectifier valve in too, but i haven't had that replaced.
will post some pics. :D

wow, that looks a top amp!
this is mine, i bought it up off the Harmonica player from my old band, it's a cheap alternative to a vintage Fender Champ. sounds ace though, perfect for rock'n'roll! just a vol & tone control and thats it.!

Tell you what, I got four Harley Benton Thommen's own brand GA15 Valve combo's a few months back, same amp chassis as the Epiphone Amp, new speaker, Celestion G10 Vintage, JJ VALVES plus a treble mod, Sounds great, B stock 88 euros, parts etc took it up another 80 euros but well worth the hassel. Sold the other 3 paid for mine! bargin.

my dads got the Epiphone valve jr, but the upgraded one with the celestion speaker, sounds really nice. i put a Groove Tube valve in and it sounds even better! heard about the treble mod, you can get kits on ebay. i've rigged the Epiphone up with the Harmony via a Line 6 Echo Park for bigger gigs and they sound fantastic together!
you can get some great little valve amps now for not much money.

I've a Blues Jnr. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the tubes or done any mods?

What exact tubes do I need does anyone know?

Is it the black Junior or tweed one? i've got a tweed one which has an upgraded Jensen speaker in it so i've not needed to do any mods to it. Replaced the power valves last year, i just got a set exact the same as what was in, Groove Tubes EL-84's. i think if you were to put any other manufacturers valves in you would have to have it re-biased, fender runs the valves very hot, which means they sound great but wear out quicker!

check out Watford Valves too, they are pretty helpfull!

Can somebody give me the facts on replacing old valves. I have a WEM dominator 111 which has Mullards in it. Most likely the originals as I don't recall much fuss about changing valves until the internet came along. Now there is talk of replacing valves every year or so but then some say you should keep Mullards in and it all gets rather confusing. Whats the common sense line on this?
