what kind of case?I always put mine in the hold,i detune the strings on long haul flights and ALWAYS put strips of gaffer tape on the catches to stop them popping open on the conveyors but i would never lock it,cos if security want to have a look they will bust the lock open and won't give a shit about it.I wouldn't worry too much if you do these things it will be ok,£2000 is daft to pay out for a guitar.

im pretty sure a violin could sit on someones lap... sounds like the usual money grabbing bullcrap

we asked about taking guitars on board because they said on their website that with prior consultation it could be arranged- and they tried to charge 1800 for it...

That's odd. I took a lap steel in its original rectangular case onboard a Ryanair flight to France as hand luggage...

When I came back from New York I 'smuggled' a huge suitcase on as hand luggage. It was about 3 times over the max size. I arrived late and missed all that checking in nonsense. I just hid it behind me.

Our double bass player has snapped the neck of his double bass twice on flights. A hard case is essential.

I've probably told this joke before on this forum...

My cousin went into Australia with an acoustic guitar. Because of laws to do with importing wood into the country, the customs official asked him "has it got any beetles in it?"
To which my cousin replied "I think I can probably remember Hard Days Night."

I've not had a problem with taking guitars on planes, but I have to have a suitcase or bag big enough to fit my frottoir in -

My accordion also got left behind at Heathrow and I had to wait a day for it to arrive in Houston, a couple of years ago - it's the only time I've never taken it on as hand luggage...grr...how could they miss this box ?

That's a cool looking piece of equipment you've got there EFSB! What's the name of your band?
