I actually think that apart from the classic butterscotch/blackguard look, the midnight wine colour is the sexiest shade that Fender do. I like it better than the candy apple red one to be honest.
It goes well with many pickguard colours (black/pearl/white/cream/mint) and also looks great with either maple or rosewood necks, something that a lot of other Fender colours dont.
I have a vintage white tele, that is too white to go with a blackguard at the moment. Maybe over time it will yellow a bit, but for now it looks better to me with the tan guard than a black one.
Call me shallow, but my Teles have to look right to me as well as play right.
I had a nice Squier Standard, which played great, had a nice neck, and pickups, superb action. BUT it was this funny antique sunburst which I never took to, couldnt find a pickguard to suit it and improve it, so I didn't play it that much
. So I sold it.
