Has anyone tried one of these? Tried one out the other day and thought they were fantastic. Texas special pickups. Cheaper than a standard tele but slightly more expensive than a highway tele.

Have you seen the Squier Classic Vibe Tele Carl? They are getting great reviews.

I will give them a try. I tried the mexican made baja tele and thought they were amazing guitars for the money.

Guitarist magazine rated the Classic Vibe tele higher than the mexican Tele, half the price too.

I'll put my £0.01 in.

I now own 4 Teles

3 are Mexican Fenders;- a 50s ReIssue, which is mainly stock

and 2 MIM Standards, both of which have been modded a bit

I had looked at the Classic Vibe series, but seeing as I was getting hold of MIM Fenders for less than the price of new ones of these, I held off getting one. I did however hold out that if I found one for a good used price, I would get one, so I could at least post about them from an "owners" rather than a "played one in a shop" or "heard about" point of view.

Got this last week for £120

Now I can compare.

Is it as good as my MIM Fenders?

IMO no.

Its not far off though.

Neck is a bit thin, neck pickup is a bit wimpy, I dont really like the yellowish white.

Fretwork is superb, but the fret material feels a bit soft. Its quite heavy too, only the wine red MIM is heavier.

Its a keeper though, and I'm thinking it would make a nice Esquire. I can them put a nice mini-humbucker into the wine red one.

The CV Squiers are nice, but whether they compare to the Mexican Fenders is quite subjective. Certainly they are not on a par with the 50s and 60s ReIssues or the Bajas.

I love the american specials but also love the baja. The baja have that real classic tele twang. The s1 switching system which puts the pickups in series or parallel is great.

Playing the waiting game on ebay with enough funds in a PayPal account, I suppose.

This year has been the one for some bargains, I can tell you, some of which I have sold on though

I got a nice Gibby Melody Maker for £200 a few months ago.

Got a Westone Concord for £70 last weekend. Thats a keeper. In fact I might post that up here for folk to look at.

All are Buy it Nows as well, I rarely get them by bidding. Though I did get a badly listed, pick-up only Squier 51 for £41 this way.

Sometimes folk just want a quick sale.

Downside is that sometimes these have only just got to me. The wine red Tele arrived in a hard case. Just a hard case. With a small address label taped to the side. The only thing keeping the case shut was the combination catch. Which he didnt send me the number for!!!

The Melody Maker arrived in nothing more than its flimsy Gibson box, with a bit of brown paper round it. :x

I got a Jagmaster some time ago, which I sold on for £90. It arrived in just its gig bag, with a strip of cardboard round it with my address on

Fair play. I could be on there all day and never see the right thing.

I did buy a Fender mexican fat strat with the humbucker pickup for $200 and it arrived in a cardboard box. Just needed a set up. Plays grand.

Pickups a bit shrill when up really high but apart from that it's great.

Often thought about replacing the pickups but that would be more expensive than I bought the guitar for :*:
