My Granddad gave me his guitar a few years ago (my first guitar), a 50's Hoffner, very similar to this one

Image

He hadn't used it for about fifteen years and the wood has dried out a bit, especially at the bottom of the guitar where there are slight cracks.

I'm a bit of a newb on guitars having only played for two years and google seems useless, so does anyone know if there is anything I can do to repair these cracks? There's probably three / four of them and they're a few cm long but not even wide enough to fit a rizla in (not that I've tried). If I can't repair them, is there anything I can do to prevent more appearing?

Thanks for any help

It's probably just the age and change in weather conditions that's caused the cracks, but if in doubt i'd get it checked out by a repairer, take it to your local guitar shop to see if there's anyone reccomended. i'd definately not try and fill the cracks yourself thugh!
is it cracks in the wood or just cracks in the finish? if it's just the finish then theres nowt to worry about!
lovely guitar too.

Thanks man.

I think it's just cracks in the finish, they're just thin black lines on the bottom.

I was thinking of getting some sort of wood filler but I think I'll leave that to a professional! :*:

Thanks again

Personally i'd leave filling it...the cracks all add to the vibe of the guitar! it could also devalue it too!

It did cross my mind (if it's already lasted this long!) but I was worried they'd get worse?

I'm never going to sell it, but I am interested in keeping the best sound possible coming from it!
