I'm interested in getting either a baritone or a bass vi..
most likely a danelectro as they are somewhat affordable
and of course they look cool.

Any advice on which to get and if they are interchangeable with a 30" scale.
I read some dano's listed as baritone and others as bass vi.
Other than the string gauge/tuning, I'm not sure what other differences
there are that I should be aware of. Do the tuners or the nut require different size for bass vi compared to baritone?

Lastly, which one is Richard and Duane using on the recent 'Road Trip' ?
I'm guessing a bass vi, but I could be wrong.

Great sounding record.. looking to order the vinyl asap.

i was tempted to get a Dano baritone cos they look and sound awesome but didn't have the cash,
i've got a sqiuer 51 that i bought cheap a while ago that i only used a few times, since the neck is massive i bought a set of Baritone strings (13's)! and tuned town to C. , any lower and the strings are too flabby, but tuned to C theres enough low end for it to sound beefy, and enough slack not to damage the neck. it's been tuned like this for a couple of years now and the necks still straight, sounds fantastic too. might be worth giving a go if you've a spare cheap guitar lying around!

you could get one of those snazzy POG pedals- turn down the dry signal and turn up the octave down and theres a baritone guitar- and they sound pretty cool for lots of other things too- i tried a MicroPog and got a really cool lead tone with it... when I get the cash will def get one

I ended up picking up a used Korean Danelectro 6 string.
In hindsight I don't think there is much difference, but the one I got
is for six string bass as it has slightly larger tuners and a bridge with adjustable saddles rather than the wood bridge.

My guess is that 'The Attack Of The Duck Billed Platypus' is six string bass
(duane) and 'Curveball' is a baritone (Richard).
Though I could be wrong..
Either way great sounding twang and an addictive sound.

Richard,
Is there no insider knowledge?

Trying to be subtle over here on the gtr talk forum doesn't seem to work...

What was used as far baritone/6 string bass on road trip?

Loving my 6 string dano bass.... very 'lonely surfer'/'witchita lineman'

Seem to remember Richard & Duane both using Danelectro Baritones when i saw Duane play live.

the ones with bigger tuners & adjustable bridges are just a later made Baritone. the very first reissues had the wooden bridges & smaller tuners. also the pickup screws on the originals were shorter so you couldn't alter the height too much. the later ones had longer screws.
