I lived in York for 20 odd years and used to get my hair cut at a traditional
barbers......red and white pole outside etc. it was a converted front room in
one of the old terrace houses with just one chair, no appointments needed,
just walk in, sit down and wait your turn.

The barber was a real character, full of stories and would quite often, stop mid
haircut, get his Banjo out of the back room and play a couple of tunes to the
waiting masses!

Bloody hell was that before he cut your ear off?

His name was Dave, but he was locally known as Slasher. He never asked
what you wanted, SB&S, Flat Top ( ) etc., he just said "usual" and
everyone got the same!
