Thinking of modding my squier tele and turning it into esquire (just the Bridge pickup).
Anyone done this? i know theres a few diagrams out there with different mods...tone bleed...different caps etc? also any ideas on upgraded pickups?
I'm thinking of going for a Bare Knuckle Flat 50 or a Piledriver.
I'm after the Paul Burlison tone, maybe a hint of Roy Buchanan too. :D

why?.........you loose more than half the spectrum of sonic possibilities doing this?I had my dad's esquire that got knicked on tour in America he did it the other way round and added the neck pick up......

Well i know what you mean, but i rarely use the neck pickup on the tele. just prefer the bite of the Bridge, like the looks of the Esquire too, basic. just want summat i can plug & play and not mess about with too much.
Plus i've got two Tele's now so can always use the second one if i want different tones.
Might just be that i really want an Esquire and can't justify paying loads for a vintage or custom shop one! :)

If you are being a typical guitar geek (like me) and can't stop tinkering.... have you thought about going the other way and putting a 4 way selector in for even more tones? I've found, quite to my surprise, the extra setting to be really useful. I thought the both in series or parallel settings to be a novelty before I tried it myself.

Also, if you're looking at new pickups you have to check out The Creamery (no affiliation!)

Try lollars. They are great pickups. Bare knuckles are also really good. Check them out they both get my vote

Esquires are fun guitars, but I have to say I do like Teles with two pickups too.

I reckon an Esquire is for when you already own a two pickup Tele.

I made a partscaster Esquire using an oak body made from old shelving, with a maple neck.

Pickup is a 10k output one and I found an obscure wiring that means you have vol+tone/vol only/pickup straight to jack socket.

Really mean sounding

I have a single pick up Gretsch 6119 but that has a three way switch that has a fair bit of tonal variety, can't get a picture up as I'm on the phone but maybe some bright spark could do that?mines red and I love it
