I like the shorpy one -there's a photo on there of 2 dudes flying a plane in 1912-quite eerie as it's not entirely dissimilar to the machine my grandad wd have flown in the Royal Flying Corps during the 1st WW. Those things were so fragile and so flammable...

thanks for the link!

The cool thing about the Shorpy blog is that there is nearly always a link to a larger image file. Some of those old glass plate negatives were amazing quality and it's unusual you can see those close up on the web.

I should of very much thanked you for this amazing link back at the time. I've been hoping for a blog like this for ages. I still check it out.

I adore this site. The history of photograph I guess is one of my main 'hobbies'. I really enjoyed looking through so much US stuff. Made a great change from the UK stuff.

I was so inspired I put some of my own stuff on the site. I love the high res.

Alas though when I put some of the stuff on the blog I just had a scanner that would only scan part of the neg. So I had to put it all together in photoshop. I didn't try very hard and some of the images could be so much better. But it was alot of fun and thats why I did it.

Though since then I've just purchased an Epson V700 so I can get into some serious 10"x8" glass plate scanning.

Also the guy who runs the site, I found annoying because he changed all my images and text, in my mind they don't look anywhere near as good. Though I've no doubt he's a top guy and his interpretation of the US images are astounding. He really knows what he's doing...but not on my images!

My few are
