Very soon this will be on line and includes all mobile numbers except those who request to be made ex-directory.

According to the BBC Web site those who wish to ensure they are ex-directory right from the start only have this weekend to register. Make sure you have your phone with you when you do as they text you a code which you have to go back on the site to register with.

However, they are doing maintenance on the site - good idea to tell people they have to register by this weekend and then take the site down for maintenance! They currently say it will be back tomorrow.

http://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html

Anyway, on the assumption it will be back running tomorrow, make sure you de-register yourself.

It's annoying that having asked right from the start that my number is not shared, a company can come along and set something like this up.

I did read that the numbers haven't come from the phone companies, but from other companies that may have personal details recorded and the owner's permission to pass them to third parties - so not everyone will be on there.

Very sneaky of them to introduce this though - it has been kept very quiet!

That same "service unavailable" message was on there last night as well - I went on to make my number ex-directory (if it's on there!) :?

PLEASE don't PANIC its exactly what this government love to make us all do

it maybe worth pointing out that by contacting them to de-register may not be the best idea, cos if they didn't have your details to start with they sure will have once you've 'de-registered', if you get my drift ;)

I checked I was on this a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't (and I've had the same mobile number since 2002), nor are 5 other people I checked. best thing would be to check up first and if not listed don't bother 'de-registering' unless you want them to have your details to do what they want with

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

Their service is still suspended.

My sister (who works with the Police) is telling people to text "E to 118800" to get your number removed.

I think I'm going to assume my number is not on there as I usually give my work number when asked for a contact. And I rarely answer my work phone. 8)
