21 and 22 - incredible pictures. Being in the right place at the right time and being able to take that photograph - astounding IMO. |

I had a few friends and neighbors with brothers who were a fair bit older, maybe 8-12 years, who served in Vietnam. It was mind-blowing then as it is now, that they went right from our school world of gym and homework and hanging out, to the next stop - a war an 18-year old couldn't understand. ~ K |

We were in Vietnam in February and visited the War Remnants Museum in Hanoi. It was, without doubt, the most sobering place I've ever visited. I remember the war being in the media during my childhood and teens but never paid a great deal of attention at the time. Whilst, understandably, the museum is full of propaganda from the Vietnamese viewpoint, the images cannot be disputed and they are harrowing, regardless of 'blame'. We saw so many people around my own age with the most terrible disfigurements imaginable. It was the most thought provoking day I've ever spent. |

I went a few years ago Jan, but Ho Chi Minh rather than Hanoi. It still impacts me to this day. Standing in the sweltering heat, the atrocity of the war laid out in front of you. I'm not sure if it's the best place to learn about the conflict as it's really a study of communist propoganda following the war, but I do think about that country most days. Those images tugged at my heart strings. |
