at least as they've been calling them on the news... there was big fuss on this morning about new crime figures which have shown an increase of 25% in crimes committed by 'girls'. Obviously this was being reported like it's the end of the world and there are little Chavettes roaming the streets tearing old ladies throats out with their bare bands. At the same time there has been a 'slight reduction' in offences by 'boys'. A reduction of 23%. Now whilst the female race are rightly being condemned, it hardly seems right that such a significant swing the other way is dismissed so lightly....

Just shows how the media warps things to fill a news item......

The BBC news page says crime by boys has only gone down by 2% though - so there's another example of altering figures! :?

Here's the link.

Boys still making up c.80% of crime for 11-17 year olds. I think I get the bit about there being more girls - it'll be about the ratio of boys/girls nationally, think traditionally more boys born each year something like ratio of boys 51:49 girls but more girls survive infancy and so globally around about 49:51 ratio boys/girls. I have an inkling that infant births ratio now favouring girls.

However, suspect it is more to do with a shift in attitude towards bad behaviour in girls as well as drink-fuelled violence ... although shoplifting got a mention!
