I've had the little warning light on mine (looks like a little yellow engine) for a week. Car is still running fine! :D

What does this mean? :eh?

I am to car mechanics what Jade Goody is to quantum physics!

I've got that same warning light on mine!!
It's been on for about 2 months now and the car still goes, so it can't be that major, I almost got the manual out to see if I could figure it out but got bored of the idea before I even reached the glove box....I hate cars.

It's a 2002 Corsa.
I've heard today that they're now giving it a brand new engine to make sure it runs fine.
It only had a warning light. WTF?

sounds like the engine management system, if it flashes when your driving don't accelerate quickly and avoid high revs. I would get it in the garage as soon as if i were you.

I got my car back today !!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
I still had to do loads of running around to get it, though. That free advertising sticker they put in the back window and hope you don't notice is definitely gonna come off!

Oh my god! That sucks balls Simon!!!!

Could you not buy a new car for less?! I sold my husbands car for $250 last year and it worked great (well except the air conditioning was broken, but who needs that in central Florida  )

   I have a little old car, low mileage, properly little trooper. Has hardly cost anything to get it through MOTs and minimum problems over the last five years. Doubt if it's worth £700 but it gets me around. Pretty suspicious of newer cars as they seem to cost so much for even the smallest repair (which reminds me I've forgotten to get my dashboard light sorted out).

Hope the £1,700 isn't going to interfere with life's other enjoyments?

This is the local garage, the guy I always use and I trust. He said if I could trace the parts for less he'd happily fit it. Definitely a ruined gearbox..etc.

And cats, I'd sooner be knocking about in a "get me from A to B" car, only want the thing to go, but space for 5 people and the need for reliability means the world of more expensive cars........

I'll just have to cut down on the fruit and veg :*:

Bad news Exapno - hope it turns out cheaper than you are expecting - £1700 is a heck of a lot of Hawley tickets .....

About three months after I got my car (first one ever at 37 years old) a nice 2005 Toyota Corolla, I decided to introduce it to a local bus. They just seemed to really need to meet each other. Anyway, dinged up the passenger side, never got it fixed but now there's little signs of rust. Was quoted $3,000 on the low end to get it fixed. Just can't justify it. When I was in that very snooty neighborhood I used to love the idea that I was horrifying all the rich and to-do folks living around me. With their $45,000 cars that had to take up two parking spaces to avoid scratches.
