Post subject:  Not being made redundant - Update

So we had our meeting, they are getting rid on my job role and creating a new job role which is similar to my job as a technical coach and my old job as a quality assurer. 16 people are being narrowed down to 5 new roles.

There is no suitable alternative employment but if unsuccessful we will be "redeployed" into a different role which the company are deeming suitable - even though they have said this is not a suitable alternative.

If this trial is then not suitable for me/us then we can resign unless we can come up with an "extremely" good reason why the role is not working for us/me or the company.

Needless to say i am well fucked off.

Using the word redeployed to get around paying out redundo!!!!!

That is absolutely appalling and I feel for you Paul! The only good thing is that you won't be out of a job............... :?

I had thought perhaps that situation (of resigning if your new job isn't suitable) could be a form of constructive dismissal but on reading the blurb I'm not sure - still you might find something somewhere else on this site......

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/DG_10026696

Are you in a union? Or is there one within your organisation? They may still be able to give you advice (probably to join the union!)?

Good luck................XX

Really sorry to hear this Paul. they're using exactly the same language as my firm earlier in the year when I was 're-deployed'.

My own job is under review, not in the same way though as others seem to be as I'm not going to have to re-apply for it or have to do any stupid interviews for what will replace it.

We're going through a financial transformation process covering our ordering and invoicing areas (I'm the internal IT orderer for all our PCs, cash registers, telephony, cabling and warehouse racking - which for some reason falls into the IT area!) and they are getting ready to install a new purchasing/invoicing system (the one we bought 5 years ago was taken over by another company who want to put their own new system in its place).

Even though I know at the end of this I will have a job, it is still unsettling. And they wondered why, when they did a recent survey of how employees felt about their work, workplace, management and suchlike, our department got a very low score!

it's happened to me too and let's face it, normally there is f all you can do about it.

at the end of the day i still have a decent job, even if it isn't the one i had and wanted to keep.

the most important thing for me is the people i work with and the friends ive got at work. that makes it worthwhile. usually!

I'll take the shit job i worked my way out of if i have to, it pays the bills.

Would rather have the redundo and get double glazing though!!!

Going through the same here. Survived this round, but no-one thinks that'll be the end of the cuts!

I remember the words of Richard at the Lowry. In the bar after the gig my other half told him that she put Cole's Corner on just after being told that she was redundant, "If they don't want you, fuck them." Couldn't say it better myself.

Same thing has happened to me this year too; we merged with a sister company and all had to reapply for a job. Thankfully, I still have a 'good' job, but have gone from feeling as though I had the best job in the world, working for the best company in the world, to waking up every morning and thinking 'what have I done to deserve this?'. The job is fine when I am out and about and left to my own devices away from the office, but I can't stand the politics and the fact that everyone seems to feel the need to jostle for position at the boss's backside! :*: To make things even worse the company has just spent $1.7 billion buying the last company I worked for .... and hated ..... hey ho ... here we go again!

Is work supposed to be interesting? :?

... but new jobs ... work out what you want to do, what your strengths are, whether you need to retrain ... it's September lots of new courses starting up of an evening ... are you ambitious ... want more money ... etc ... who are the big employers in your area ... who likely to be taking people on ... go check their websites .... and get your CV looking good. Hope you find something soon. :D
