So, yesterday I decided to do a job I have been putting off for weeks now; One of our parrots has taken to sitting on the living room curtain poles and pulling wallpaper off when no one is looking. Easy solution I thought - I'll just fix the curtain poles nearer the ceiling so the sod cannot land on them. Start at 10 and finish at noon I estimated.

I could not have been more wrong; There seems to be an inordinate amount of steel in our house walls right where I needed to drill holes. After an hour or so, we had so many aborted holes drilled in the walls I could have thrown the drill out of the window. Another hour or so was spend selecting the best holes from the large choice available to me, and custom making some rawplugs to fit their stupid sizes.

By the middle of the afternoon I had curtain poles back up, but then had to plaster up the wall to hide the godawful mess I had made. By the time it had gone off and I had painted the wall, it was tea time.

And all the time the parrot sat watching me, making stupid noises. To round the day off, I thought I would clip her claws. This descended into utter chaos and I am now sporting several deep scratches and a some pretty painful holes in one hand where she bit me. :x

God, I hate DIY...

Cheers, Steve.

You could always have taken the easy route and made a design feature of the excess drill holes!

Hope you have a better day tomorrow, Steve  I think I want a parrot...

They are wonderful creatures, each with their own personality. This one (a blue fornted amazon) is very headstrong and likes to get it's own way. When it doesn't, trouble usually follows. She is sweet most of the time though. It is like having a two year old child in the house again, only this is for the next 50 to 90 years! I will be long gone by the time she reaches old age.

At least raising the curtain pole has done the trick though. Last night I let her out of the cage for a fly around and she could not land on it. So all the hassle that Sunday caused has been worth it - no more unsanctioned wallpaper stripping :D

Cheers, Steve.

It is an ex parrot...

Anyway, I really would love one. But my mum's got a bit of a paranoia about me buying pets with long lifespans. I asked for a tortoise a few years ago and she said I can't have one until I've got children :?

Find yourself a scally and get knocked up then. Job done plus you'll get more from the DSS for the Tennent's Super fund.
