I have paid out £450 this month trying to fix up my siamese cat who's had an upset tummy for 5 weeks and then today the dog refused to walk when I got to the park.
I had to carry home (pulled muscles in my ribcage and back) took him to the vet and found he had an abscess on his toe.

Another £215 to make him look like a pirate!!!! :dwarf: :( :(
The sad face is coz he feels like a tit!
LOOOOOKKKKK!!!!!

Paid a similar amount 2 years ago for some treatment on my 13 year old cat; only to have the poor bugger put to sleep a few weeks later. As Richard might say, 'soft as a bag of tits'.

We have paid for treatment for pets, then they didn't recover. I think they should be more honest if they don't think the animal will recover. It is a horrible decision to have a pet put to sleep you have to rely on the vet's opinion.

Your poor dog does look a bit sad Julie, in a cute way. :)

My cat's picked up fleas and they're persistent little buggers this year, I've tried most of the flea treatments you can buy in the shops and they're not shifting so I guess we're looking at prescription stuff next. Well, my old vet went bankrupt and I can't get copies of her vaccination records to prove she's up to date and disease free so before I can see a new vet they want to give her all her shots all over again and do all the tests for stuff like feline luke & HIV. This is over $700 (over four hundred quid) before they'll even see her for the fleas she actually needs to be treated for!!

Did I mention I live in New York...

Aw Julie, your dog looks so forlorn - hope he gets better soon

Your doggie looks so cute and sorry for himself. I am sure that he will get better quickly. I presume the £215 is for antibiotics? If so, that is robbery.

One of my colleagues has recently spent hundreds of pounds at the vets on one of his moggies. Then he had to have her put to sleep. Not only did he loose so much money, but one of his pets also.

I must admit, I dread the day I have to take one of our parrots to the vet. I am sure there will be some sort of bolloxy surcharge because they are tropical creatures.

Back to your doggie though - he looks just like my last dog. He was one of my best friends and and excellent eating and drinking partner.

Cheers, Steve.

We keep birds and have paid a fortune at the vets over the years. You should check out a specialist vet before you need one just in case. We are lucky we have one not too far away.

Cost of pet medicine can be a rip off - we have two dogs both with ongoing conditions - however have now found out that prescription drugs ie canine insulin is available via vet websites ie viovet at half the price charged by vet practices - however to get the cut price drugs you need a form signed by your vet

Thank you for your sympathy over my poor sad pirate dog.
He usually looks like this
Image and he too is my best friend.
The money that I paid out was for an operation to lance, drain and stitch his toe plus anti-biotics and he is thankfully on the mend but the vets really do have you over a barrel with money don't they?

My siamese cat has stomach problems and they did lots of tests... The first ones showed up possible kidney problems. When the medication and prescription food didn't work further tests showed inflamatory bowel disease so we have antibiotics, a different prescription food and weekly vitamin B12 injections for the next 12 weeks... Poor soul is fed up of having tablets being forced down his throat and being carted off to the vets every week...

I've got to take them BOTH tonight.

I think my vet may retire on what he's had off me this time... £450 so far for the cat and another couple of hundred for the dog!!! Ouch! :(

FLEA problem... In Britain you can now get Frontline over the counter. If that is available over the counter in the USA that is the one to use. It definately works but you need a spray for the house too.... Animals eh! We love them but they are trying to bankrupt us!

Aaawww I hope they're both OK and wish you the best of luck getting them both to the vet - its bad enough with just one! :*:

I need to do my yearly spray of the house - but the thought of having to move everything and then vacating the place for a couple of hours - aagh!

I find that a curry & Guinness diet removes the need for such measures.
