I personally have made a solemn vow, not to even use the toilets in a McDonalds.

Anyway, back to Christmas. I'm definately working Christmas day. We got 60 covers for Christmas dinner so far and my boss is trying to get that up to 80.

Don't ask me how.

Awwwww no that's awful working xmas day :( people should be at home I would never go out for dinner

Ah don't worry about it. I get Christmas bonus, loads of tips, and get to take home spare chocolate truffles or if I'm lucky a bottle of cheap champagne.

Ooooh! The German Christmas Market opened in Edinburgh yesterday, so I'll be down there this weekend to get some authentic Bratkartoffeln and Gluhwein, yummy! I lived in Germany for over 8 years and there's lots of things I miss.

I washed dishes one New Year at a local posh place as a youth - the Landlord came through to the kitchen and gave me and another lad a pint just after 12 - once he left the bar man came through and took the pints off us

Turned out they were from the slops tray - and he gave us some champagne cognac instead...

Lookin back I loved it - actually I loved it at the time...

Aaaah...we used to go to that each year with the little uns. I bought a glass bauble one year and had 'Emily's first Christmas' painted on it......and promptly broke it the following year!!!

We've also bought a couple of the wooden soldier dolls in which you burn the little incense cones and wisps of smoke come out of their mouths. I call one of the dolls my 'Smoking Helmut.' Oh, how we larf.........

I agree with you Louise, it isn't about buying a nice thoughtful gift anymore. When I was at work over weekend, people were spending a fortune where do they get the money??? Mind you keeps me in a job :*: Am excited though, it's the 1st December woo hoo!! At work tonight they will have the Christmas music on, hopefully not Ronans version of Fairytale In New York though
