Ok peeps I dont know if you are aware that if the Tories get in next year they plan to 'set aside Government time for a vote to repeal the ban on fox hunting' If you want back the ban and stop the return of this cruel activity then follow this link: http://www.labour.org.uk/backtheban

Hilary Benn MP( top man!!) is leading this and I myself reckon its worth backing!!

Unfortunately if the Tories get in we'll all be under threat....not just the poor old foxes.

Well I voted on behalf of my sister who's a tory activist - bless her - so no doubt she'll be round with David and George to do me over at the weekend...

Fraid so, specially round these parts.

But I should stress, I'm not. Never have been, never will be.

Its depressing round here come election time and Labour has a snowballs chance in hell of getting in here so I always vote tactically, but still no joy.

I hate fox hunting with a vengeance. Some people round here are starting to feel like that, but there will always be a some that think its acceptable.

I love horses, but I'd still never take part in a hunt. The idea of chasing a beautiful animal around then letting it suffer a horrible death is abhorrent to me.

And I don't hold with this "its tradition" ballcocks either, it was traditional to torture prisoners, burn witches and put people in the stocks...but we have evolved and don't do that anymore, so why hunt?

The Counryside Alliance would argue that it's not just tradition that's at stake, it's also livelihoods - revenue from the hunts goes towards the upkeep of fields, tracks etc.

I happen to think that's a piss poor argument - I would rather have overgrown hedges than loads of upper class twits tally hoing across perfectly manicured fields.

What hedges?

They have pulled 'em all up around here!

I agree with you Maggie, its a load of old flannel and I would rather have overgrown hedges.

Seriously though, I am a farmers daughter and can happily say that our family have never got involved in the whole hunting and shooting malarkey. (My mum was a right Sheffielder through and through and when she moved here it was a major culture shock to her!).

I can't see in this day and age how hunting can be economically viable and be any thing more than a hobby for an elite few.

The land owners around here either don't have much in the way of hedges or seem pretty adept at keeping their land in order without resorting to hunts.

I accept that foxes can do a lot of damage (and whilst I am not comfortable with the idea of killing myself) there is a lot more humane ways to kill a fox then hounding it do death.

Jeez don't you think people would have more important things to worry about than whether they should resurrect dressing up in silly suits and chasing some poor creature around the countryside and then tearing it to pieces. It's over do something else you upper class twats! - like real work!
What really worries me is that those same upper class twats are standing for election as the Tory party and might even win it!

There are more foxes in cities nowadays than in the countryside - are we going to have the hunt riding through Broomhill? I was out with the girls on Saturday lunchtime walking past the Hallamshire hospital when Luce said "look at that fox!!!" I said don't be daft but there it was staring back at us oblivious to the traffic driving by.....

Saying that, some of the kids had a fabulous excuse for being late to class the other day "sorry miss, we were playing with the badger on the grass outside school" ( ironically very close to the Hallamshire hospital also)- and these were sixth formers!!!!!
Will the tories also encourage Badger culls as it affects farmers???

one night my dogs where going mad. I looked out of the window and two fox cubs were 'playing' on the lawn just like 2 puppy dogs, having a right bundle, rolling about chasing each other.

We get fox cubs frolicing in our garden late at night, it's fun to see them.
