As a West Midlander, very ashamed of that percentage.
It just goes to show though that the 'people' just weren't that bothered about AV ! It was just a policy that the lib dems forced on the coalition as part of the terms of their signing up... how many people do you know are bothered about electoral reform?? not many I bet ! people are worried about unemployment/employment, the NHS, government cut backs, immigration etc.. the same old same old.... most people don't give a monkey's about the bloody voting system. What pisses me off is that vince cable et al then get all arsey when the vote doesn't go their way, how bloody patronising, like we stupid people just don't understand and are soooo easily swayed by the Tories and their NO campaign.. give us a bit of credit vince, most people don't give a fuck about AV or your stupid party... and that was definitely reflected in the lib dem vote so bollocks to them!! phew.. sorry about that, i'll get down from my high horse now... didn't realise i was so worked up about that one!! and on a final note Ed Miliband is a complete wanker...sorry, calmed down now
I totally agree with the passion behind what you are saying and on what are the major issues we face as a country.
What annoys is people not bothering to vote, no matter what the issue or election. We are damn lucky to have the opportunity to vote and people campaigned for decades for that right. Whilst there are more important issues, when we see people today dieing for that right (just like people in our own country did) I just think we have so little excuse when we don't. We have BNP MEPs because enough people did not go out and vote.
We had council elections that day to and yet people still didn't bother voting. When are councils are facing major decisions regarding public services, people not bothering to vote or engage with the decisions they will soon be complaining about just gets me on my own high horse.

Also, Labour had an AV referendum in their 2010 manifesto, offered the LDs AV without a referendum as well as a referendum on PR following the result - so to some degree, the past and current Labour leadership did care about it
Plus 2010 pollings show we would have a Lab/Lib coalition now if we had AV then...
I could talk about the times Labour government MPs voted through AV to have it blocked by a Tory dominated Lords but my posts tend to make people contemplate suicide enough already...
