Well written Helen.i think there are a great many people who are struggling because of these self centred uncaring idiots. I am optimistic about the future - this morning my y11 economics class - how many of you would rather have better health care and education but have to pay more taxes? Answer - 20 hands up! How many of you would rather pay for your education and healthcare and pay less tax ? Answer 1! I felt that there may be some hope for us if this is how the future generation think. Then I wondered if I was teaching in Surrey rather than Sheffield if the answer would be the same...

New health minister comes in and first thing they announce is that People should be helped to die. I know this is a complex subject but as a person with limited mobility it sent shivers down my spine. After 32 disabled people a week on average are committing suicide through either fear of the humiliating assessments or because their lives have become so debt ridden and isolated that they feel it is not worth living. The Tories announce they are pro euthanasia. Now this:
"A man with Down's syndrome is suing an NHS trust over a hospital's decision to issue a do-not-resuscitate order giving his disability as one of the reasons....To use Down's syndrome and learning difficulties as a reason to withhold lifesaving treatment is nothing short of blatant discrimination....East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust says it complied fully with guidance from professional bodies....The family of the man, who can be identified only as AWA because of a court order, remained unaware of the do-not-resuscitate (DNR) decision until he had returned from hospital to his care home.....The DNR form, issued while he was in hospital in Margate a year ago, was listed as an indefinite decision, meaning it would cover the duration of his stay in hospital, with no provision for review. "
Ok he also has Alzheimers but the family say he is enjoying life and it's the inclusion of Downes syndrome and Learning difficulties as reasons that worries and also the family were there every day but not told.

...it's getting a bit scary

The latest tool for the continued persecution of the Disabled is this revision to the appeals system.

New rules for ESA and DLA appeals
"there will be a new requirement for claimants to request a revision of the original decision from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and have that request determined before launching the right to appeal to an independent tribunal.
Only once the decision maker has either issued a revised decision, or decided that they cannot revise the decision, will the claimant be able to lodge their appeal.

There will be no time limit on how long this process can take." !!!!!!

So with 40% of appeals overturning the DWP the Tories solution is to draft rules that allow them to completely ignore the claimant for an indefinite period.....probably in hope that they will die off in the meantime.

The next stage is being rolled out Monday. Kick the sick and Disabled into unpaid work , which massages the work figures, and don't mention as they fall out the other end even sicker.
