Went to see the film in question and it's excellent - loads of nodding self-reverential bits to previous IJ films and to the likes of ET and Close Encounters. It's a fittingly autumnal Indy, with a recognition that time is passing and he's getting older too. Well done Mr. Spielberg.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was basically crap. Like the old films well enough though don't pretend to love them beyond compare but this just didn't really work for me at all.

Shortage of humour, CCCP stoming around US in uniform? (yes suspend disbelief but...), Ray Winstone a parody of himself parodying Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins and the character as a believable sidecick to IJ at any time seems impossible as he only exhibited naked greed and I guess Indy is better than that surely?. The self referencing was tedious not "fun". Adventure story yes, but why try and turn it into a sci-fi gloop? Half finished storylines and steals from Goodnight Vienna to The Mummy.

Rather sad really and my lads weren't full of it afterwards. Hope fans find enough to enjoy

Okay expano, have the nieces visiting later in the week ... what would you recommend instead? (9 & 13 year olds) They are expert at getting me to part with money and I feel a trip to the multiplex calling on Thursday.

Have to rethink - pester power's awesome skills means that she's now told me "I've already seen it with my friend" ... subtext, how are you going to beat that :*: Can always strap her into the boot of the car and take the 13 year old on her own. Maybe not.

Does the female utter those appalling awful shrieks like in the previous films? That would seal the decision to go see it.

But still be ultimately let down as really it was all a bit pants (i'm assuming they didn't make massive edits to the dvd version i just watched)? Yes.

Should they have left Indy in the past where he was best remembered? Yes.

But was it slightly redeemed by Cate Blanchett looking damned hot and talking Russian? Hell yes.

I didn't like it, to much CGI and comedy parts, not enough heads melting.

Also having The Janitor not being The Janitor but only being able to actually see him as The Janitor as in my head he always be The Janitor kind of killed it almost from the off for me too.

Cheap bastard that I am who only rents dvds, I actually own the box set of the Indiana Jones trilogy. Watch all 3 films at least once a year. So, I checked out the latest film and turned it off after about 15 minutes into it. Total dreck, imo. Ford is so over the hill it isn't even funny. Can't stand Shiat LaPoof. My favorite is the 3rd film--Sean Connery for the win, baby! I feel the same about the Back to the Future trilogy, love the 3rd film the best.
