Anyone see this? Quite a good documentary I thought.

I couldn't find it on the BBC iPlayer but 'The Best of the Johnny Cash Show' is up for viewing

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b00bv3z3.shtml

Plenty of dodgy nylon suits and wayward haircuts and some good tunes too :)

Edited to add - there's a nice little Everly Brothers segment (with their Dad!) and Chet Atkins too.

The excerpts from the JC show were excellent - Bill Monroe and George Jones were the highlights for me.

i watched all the programs on friday and then again on sunday - was quite amazed that on the johnny cash show, Mr. Cash was singing without a mike in the most cavernous and noisy venues imaginable :) 8)

Watched the documentary. Very good. That final song/video he made - crikey. He was made of some stuff... 8)

I don't suppose anyone knows the name of the song that played over the final credits of the documentary? It's eluding me at the moment....

Was that 'Hurt'? That video and song can reduce even the hardest bloke to a crying wreck - so a soft-arse like me's got no chance...

What a bloke!

DVD is sitting alongside the TV waiting for a timely moment to have a look, report back later.

If I Give My Soul

Down a dangerous road, I have come to where I'm standing.
With a heavy heart, and my hat clutched in my hand.
Such a foolish man, God ain't known no greater sinner.
I have come in search of Jesus, hoping he will understand.

If I give my soul, will he cleanse these clothes I'm wearing?
If I give my soul, will he put new boots on my feet?
If I bow my head and beg God for his forgiveness,
Will he breathe new life within me and give me back my dignity?

I had a woman once, she was kind and she was gentle.
Had a child by me, who grew up to be a man.
I had a steady job, 'til I started into drinking,
And I started making music traveling with the Devil's band.

Oh the years flew by like a mighty rush of eagles,
My dreams and plans were all scattered in the wind.
It's a lonesome life, when you lose the ones you live for.
If I make my peace with Jesus, will they take me back again?

If I give my soul, will he stop my hands from shaking?
If I give my soul, will my son love me again?
If I give my soul, and she knows I really mean it,
If I give my soul to Jesus will she take me back again?
