to my shame I've never seen that, only one of his I've not seen, must be rectified asap.

Just watched 2001 again, incredible film. I think most of his films are works of genius, bar Barry Lyndon (with a completely miscast Ryan O'Neal) & Eyes Wide Shut, but even those have many many good things about them. A lesser Kubrick film still beats the hell out of most other films. Hard to pick a personal favourite but Clockwork Orange & Full Metal Jacket are up there.

If he were still alive now we might be due another film  Well, maybe another few years yet..

Kubrick is to films as the Beatles are too music in my mind.

Both just manage to encapsulate what I find magic about both mediums and speak to me on a personal level.

Plus, the Bealtes made 13 albums and Kubrick made 13 films AND their best works are the 7th Album/Film, Revolver and Dr Stangelove. Spooky Wooky.

Paths of Glory is one of the most profund and eloquent films ever made.

Gotta say, I think Ryan O'Neil is great in Barry Lyndon. Kubrick normally cast the leads in his films to be slightly out of kilter with everything else in the film and that tended to give the films another dimension.

Lydon's main achievement though is its satggering beauty.

Sure miss the feeling of being able to see a new Kubrick film...

If you like 'Barry Lyndon' you should check out some of the films of Roy Andersson the Swedish director. He knowingly uses this style in many of his films, marry that to Ingmar Bergman in tone and the general scandanavian doom and gloom and you have a seriously relevant and fantastic film-maker. Here's two clips one from 'Songs From The Second Floor' and 'You, the Living'
