Though I have been fooling around with an SLR camera for several years, I had never had the courage to have a go at using a flash. This book has really been an eye-opener when it comes to understanding how it works. |

I was doing a college project about convincing an audience that a legend could be real... Anyway I picked Spring-Heeled Jack as my legend - only to discover that Mark Hodder had written a Steampunk crime novel about him!

Guilty pleasure is the Kathy Reichs mystery novels, can't resist them even though they are 100% predictable and not exactly great reading. But easy, fast, entertaining reads are sometimes exactly what's needed. Nothing like the Bones t.v. show, which is based on these books. I've made a bet to myself about which page she will wander off from her police partner and get herself conked on the head and dragged off to some remote place where the bad guy intends to kill her. I was only five pages off this time.

I'm half way through it, and I don't know whether I'll ever finish it or whether I'll die laughing first. Some of the situations are very familiar to me, but even those that aren't seem extremely funny to me.

Just re-read Stephen King's (Richard Bachman's) The Long Walk. Still powerful. Not read it for about 14 years... |

Good old SK - I'm re reading 'The Stand' which is fab. Have you read any of Tabitha King's books? Very different from his work but really good - 'Pearl' is a good start. |

 A fascinating read about the journey of English folk music from Vaughan Williams to the modern day. Its a lovely big chunky book full of tales of famous and obscure characters, myths, folklore and landscape that colour English 'folk' music. I'm on my second reading at the mo. |
