i loved it. surpassed the original film - which i have a lot of affection for - thought the Coen's version was note perfect from start to finish. never read the book though.

We went to see this in the week. I went with some trepidation as it was a) of the 'western' genre, and b) the Coen brothers, whose previous work I have not taken to .......... but I was truly drawn in right from the start and thoroughly enjoyed it. The young girl in it is a fine actress.

I've read so many reviews and heard so many people say it upstaged the original. This is a statement that has irked many traditionalists and fans of Mr John Wayne. I've seen the original a long long time ago but I'd have to agree. Than again it was never meant to be a remake of the film but rather a different more faithful take on the book but I loved the Coen's take from second one till the end. Superb casting, Hailee Steinfeld stole the show, Jeff Bridges note perfect as always he may have not seen an oscar but its up there with as good as anything he's done and Matt Damon , well hell I never liked him myself but the Coen's brought out another dimension in him there with this role. Also Roger Deakins take a bow as Cinematograther (again), beautiful looking movie and the Carter Burwell score is immense ohh but why the fuck does the offical soundtrack ommit Iris Dement's version of Leaning on the Everlasting Arms which scores the films most memorable scene ??? I might even go and see it again at the weekend now ...
