I'm watching online. Nobody seems to turn up for the smaller awards...nowhere near as flash as the BAFTAs - at the moment. Probably the best bits are in the middle of the night though....

to be honest and saying this as a music fan I struggle to give any sort of a damn about any of these sorts of industry things with the one exception when somone a little I dunno left of field or say a deserving outsider gets some recognition... which is why I am doubly please about Mavis Staples winning a grammy tonight for Best Americana Album for her album. go Mavis.

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

It's always a bizarre night...alternating between moments of joy and horror.

still... arcade fire, mavis staples and the black keys won and the avett brothers performed... better than some years- but i mean these are really just an awards show to pat the big stars on the back

The whole list of awards is load of crap though. I mean before you even get to 'best vocal in the club style recorded on a tour bus by a person under 180 pounds', what the hell is the difference between 'album of the year' and 'record of the year'???

this one i can clarify... album of the year is for album- record is for a single recording and is awarded apparently more on a production basis... or something like that- and yea i was glad to see bill the bus driver win that one too hes so talented!!

Ok, so 'record of the year' and 'song of the year'? I can see the difference, but it's typically American schmaltz, they may as well just rename the whole thing 'everybody wins a prize day'. Infact in this age of cost cutting the record companies are going to have to start making stickers for album covers saying 'this artist hasn't won a Grammy'.

Alternatively someone could title their new album "Grammy Award Winner"; and wait for it to sell shedloads to the gullible.

i agree wholeheartedly that it is a crock of shit and i wouldn't be surprised if the judging panel is the marketing department from the big record labels deciding who could use a bit of a boost
