Black Beauty by another name :)
Beautiful cinematography, corny story that would have been perfect for 8 year olds if the barbed wire scene was taken out.

Bit disappointing, I thought - beautifully shot, Blacky Beauty meets Lassie Come home storyline and accents that wouldn't have sounded out of place in "Allo Allo"....

Some dreadful dialogue too....Richard Curtis..oh dear...

Basically a great story for 8 year olds, but stretched far too thin over 2 and a bit hours.

I went along with two others, one who had read the book, and the other who had seen the stage version. Both agreed that the film was alright, but lacked something that the written and live stage had offered. I thought the start of the film was too twee, a bit like Babe meets All Creatures Great and Small, but the visual quality of the war scenes was fantastic.

I've just watched the second part of Birdsong, and it reminds us all, yet again, of the sheer waste of humanity of WW1.

Seen 2 versions of the play, both were fabulous. Both the lad and the horse are blinded in the play so im glad the film didnt dwell on that!!!!
Utterly in love with Joey.

Really enjoyed War Horse, if enjoyed is the right word. Cried buckets. Haven't read the story yet, but I have a lot of respect for Michael Morpurgo.

I saw it twice in comparitively quick succession due to attending performances with one of my (then) kids.

I read the book, when she did,and attended the play as part of a school literature initiative so that I could share it with her.

My apologies if I've misremembered the book, it was some time ago, and I actually didn't think that it was that great.

I'm also sorry that the versions of the play I saw didn't match yours.

(Oh and I can't remember which row i was in but if it comes to me I'll pm you and put your mind at rest.)
