Most interesting documentary on BBC4 last night. I'm afraid I hadn't heard of Nic Jones before this  Great musician.

I'm sure many folks on here will enjoy this. Contributors include Martin Simpson and Martin & Eliza Carthy.

If you look closely, you can see me when he's coming on stage at Warwick....front row, left hand side...

A video I took at that show -

..and some photos....

I got into Nic via Kate Rusby's covers of some of his stuff, but soon got won over by his original recordings. His early albums are unavailable for some legal reasons, but Penguin Eggs and a couple of compilations that he and his wife Julia put together on their own label, of demos and audience recordings are a great introduction to a great man.

I saw that doco too and I'd never heard of Nic Jones before either. Wasn't it wonderful? I found a few tears rolling down my cheeks when he performed 'Now'. I'd love to go and see him and his son perform live one day. And I'm going to buy 'Penguin Eggs' by hook or by crook....

It's exciting when you come across something new, isn't it? Even if, technically, it's old.

I thought that the title was apt, Enigma - a puzzling or inexplicable occurrence, as I too had never heard of him. Perhaps it was a South East thing and it didn't travel north of Watford.... or the BBC creating a bandwagon to jump on
Having said that, I did find the programme interesting and touching especially when he was performing with his son.
Good luck to him - he deserves it ..>

You new fans of Nic Jones maybe interested in this.....

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24112

I am of that age where I can proudly say that I saw him perform in his prime (70s/80s)......probably 7-8 times. I also owned all of his albums (on vinyl)........he was a real inspiration to me.

Enjoy...

Thanks for that AJ, I hadn't realised your original thread was there.

You mention Sam Carter in your posts on there. I found this link, also on YouTube, which is most interesting - not that I could ever achieve the techniques he is demonstrating.
