WHY do the mosaics have to have been removed?
Another piece of British cultural landscape gone, in my opinion.
Nothing non-generic will be left soon.

(P.S. admins, if a thread about this has already been started elsewhere, I'm sorry and of course, please delete this one).

Looks like the building is being sold but the owner is retaining the artworks for herself.

That may be a good thing but could be bad. The intention may be to keep them, or to sell them. If for sale let's hope a British art institution has sufficient funds to keep them in this country.

To me, the mosaics on the outside of the building meant Affleck's. I hope you're right, in the sense that they won't be destroyed (owner maybe wanted to ensure their protection?), but I can't see what would be a better alternative.
And I just can't see why some things cannot be just left well alone!!!

A lot of William Morris/Burne-Jones stained glass is now in museums because of changes made to buildings. Mainly due to the destruction of them but sometimes conversion of churches to other use - in Nottingham one building with Morris windows became the Lace Market Museum, and last I heard it was a pub with the windows still in situ.

elaine, and graham who helps her run it are diamond people. bruntwood have been after the place for years and they've finally got it. i'm sure things have been difficult for elaine, i know she's been committed to the place surviving, but it'll never be the same.

yes, the suits have f*cking won.

again.

"New manager Tony Martin - previously responsible for the Trafford Centre's Festival Village - has been brought in to run the centre.

Traders have welcomed his appointment"

Can't think why - the Festival Village at The Trafford Centre started out as an 'arty crafty' corner of The Trafford Centre. It wasn't a success and fairly quickly degenerated into a tacky market. The area was (thankfully) eventually leased by John Lewis :?

Affleck's Palace has been an institution for years. Another nail in the coffin of individuality ....
