You've got away just in time, half my family are headed to that area this week.

It's a lovely place, we used to go to Black Rock Sands caravan site when we were kids and my aunt and uncle would be in a hotel in Cricceith - I seem to recall Cadwalleders ice cream shop was alongside the castle. We went re-visiting about four years ago and the ice cream was as good as I remembered.

cadwalliwhotsit is indeed still there and when i had the delhi two step on thursday in portmerion, a mint choc chip sorted me out. ice cream, grapefruit and jelly are first class hangover cures.

cats, i so want to go to holmfirth but i spent about £50 in three nights on pool and jukebox alone so can you work out what i went through on ale?!

One of the places I went to as a kid - in the days when you had family holidays ie: cousins aunties uncles grand dad + mum...

Went back Easter 07 tho stayed in a cottage next to the steam train line out of Portmadoc [?] up in the hills [Penrhyndeudraeth?]...

Loved it in 60 / 61 [ish] and loved it last year - sad to say it was the last holiday the real poppy dog [labrador 14 years] went on...

Off to cry in me beer now

We stopped staying in caravans once most of us were in our teens (I have two brothers and four sisters so caravans were too small once we couldn't all sleep top to toe in the double bed). Then my parents rented houses - the best one was in Morfa Nefyn which had room for our family, my aunt and uncle and grandparents. A huge place which is now a hotel.

And in Portmadoc (or Porthmadog) we had a house on a street sloping up alongside the harbour - we did a visit back to the chip shop and sat by the harbour eating fish and chips - very different now as they built some smart apartments on one side of the harbour. Spent the day on the beach at Borth-y-gest which the kids loved - aunties endlessly digging channels for the water to run round the castles they had made. My brother going off to get us all a coffee from the caff and sitting there acting like it was a sunny day when it was bloody cold and windy. But it was a good day even so.

I'm loving that duffle-style cardi you've got on in that pic, Mick.
Sexy.

I love that part of Wales too - spent many happy childhood hols on Black Rock sands. Also remember camping there around the time of Princess Diana & Prince Charles' wedding and loads of us huddled round a tiny B&W portable telly powered from our little Fiat 126 car battery - Happy Days :D
