Still on my holidays in this wonderful place; highlights so far have been flying over The Juneau ice field and glaciers in a De Haviland 6 seater floatplane, riding the Yukon Trail on the White Pass Railway. The best ever moment was sailing within 0.5 km of the Hubbard Glacier and hearing it crackle as it 'calves' - a truly incredible sight:

Glad you're having agreat time, Jan! Alaska is really becoming the 'in' place to go. I've heard of loads of people going there this year - and everyone of them comes back shaking their heads in awe and wonder. Must be fantastic. Difficult to top it though! I mean - where could you go after that? Although I have heard the Antarctic is pretty splendid... :)

A few more pics - just about coming back down to earth! This really was one of those trips of a lifetime, so hope you don't mind me sharing my pics? :D

Yukon Railway a fantastic journey and an amazing insight into the Klondike Gold Rush era - defnitely worth reading about

The Hubbard Glacier from half a mile away (or five cables in nautical terms ... if anyone know how long a cable is?)

It's heartening to see there are still left some lovely wilderness places in the world.
Looks superb. My folks went to NZ earlier this year.

Looks equally stunning and otherworldy from their photos.

The vastness really bowled me over - Alaska really is 'the last frontier'.
The people are wonderfully warm and friendly too - genuinely interested in others and so naturally courteous :D

Alaska looks cold Jan ... I'm assuming you are already fully kitted out for the Hawley grotto experience? :D
