I'm in Leicester for the day on Saturday (playing chauffeur to my wife who's doing a course), and wondered if anyone can recommend any places and shops to check out. I'll be on foot, so nowhere too far from the town centre.

Record shops, guitar shops, museums, galleries, parks... And somewhere for a bite to eat.

Of course, if it's pissing it down, I'll probably just sit in the car, read a book and have a kip!

Well there's a new John Lewis store there - think it's part of a new shopping centre.

Do you know, despite having lived close to Leicester I don't recall ever going shopping there.

I've read about the new shopping centre, but I think I'll give the "historic" market a try instead...

Not sure if they're open in the daytime anymore as just a bar, but if so The Musician would be a good place to kill an hour with a pint if you like venues with lots of photos & posters of old gigs:

There's a Sound Control just around the corner too.

I grew up there & only live 15 miles away now, but haven't been to the town centre for about 20 years :? They will keep knocking things down & building horrible modern things in their place :|

There is the National Space Museum and The Museum of Technology, but they are away from the town centre i'm afraid. The museum of Technology is great. Housed in the Victorian pumping station, it has the restored beam engine which is a real beauty

If memory serves me its close by the train station and there are various eateries close by. Only dealt with them with some mail order but found them very helpful.
