This thread has tipped my head - I was planning a half-term getaway to somewhere European and cultural - Vienna was in the running, but this thread and the fact that it costs twice as much as it would to go to Vienna for the same amount of time swayed me into booking 5 nights in the Eternal City - I've been before, a few times, but not really to have a serious explore of the things that I really want to see - armed with a decent camera.

I'm so wishing I'd booked five nights myself, efsb. Not sure how we're going to fit in so much in just three :( ... but I just know it's going to be fabulous 8)

I'm looking forward to going back - dug out some old photos I took one February in the mid 80s, when me and a mate drove there from Newcastle-under-Lyme..28 hours with two stops...!!

We had a wander around the Campo De' Fiori area last time I was in Rome. There is a wonderful atmosphere in Rome, I love the way the old and the new fit so well together.

I'm staying fairly low rent not far from Termini - stayed in that area before. It's not very pretty, but it's a quiet area, away from the main traffic, which, even with the anti-horn peeping traffic laws, is still a blessing in Rome.

Obviously the place could have done with a good tidy up but the company, food and wine were fantastic! x
