Danes Dyke near Flamborough is a corker

Great for the dog too - there's hardly anyone ever on it too so you can get your gut out without offending anyone.

Tiny irritating flies, they hang around in gangs and hover around your face. But compared to Australian spiders, I'll take midges any day.

I am on holiday this week and hoping to get to the seaside tomorrow. The Lleyn peninsular is the only place mentioned within striking distance from here, but that's too far with the price of fuel. We might get as far as Llandudno.

I lived on the Lleyn for 10 years, parking is HORRIFIC around Abersoch(Cheshire on Sea) and Aberdaron, but Porth Neigwl has nothing there but 4 miles of sands so not so full of tourists.
(And NO MIDGES RH).

Thanks for the tips re photos Susie, will give it a go.

not only do we have killer spiders, we have large irritating flies that hang around your face and everywhere else for that matter... but i can see how tiny would be even more annoying

Nowt wrong with Llandudno - we spent our honeymoon there almost 20 years ago - altho' the Best Man said in his speech we should have gone to Prestatyn

I love Llandudno, we had our honeymoon there 28 years ago, we stayed on the West Shore. We did get to Llandudno when I had a week off in July but first we stopped at a quiet beach at Llandullas. I can't say it was particularly scenic, but there is a cycle path there so we might go back with bikes and cycle to Colwyn Bay.

One of my favourite beaches is the West Beach on Iona of the coast of Mull.

The North Beach on Iona and Calgary Beach on Mull are all fantastic. On a sunny day any of them could be in the Caribbean.

Lady Ruff-Diamond, you many need to use a photo hosting site for your own photos, I use http://tinypic.com

It is a bit big, I usually resize to the website/e-mail size 320 x 240. It is a great photo,

I love Portmeirion. It is a bit too far to go on a day trip from here, we will have to have a long weekend in the area. We had a great week in Harlech when the kids were small. Harlech is my favourite of the North Wales castles.

Thanks for the advice, wasn't sure how to get it smaller but will have a go next time!!
I like Harlech too, and both Criccieth and Beaumaris have stunning views out to sea.
Thanks for the compliment re photo.

the gower perninsular has some lovely beaches and as quite a few entail a bit of a hike they're not too busy either, Iona is a magical place I remember pink rocks and tuorqoise sea and standing on a beach at night in the eye of a storm, my tent had been blown away and clouds were scudding across a full moon

but them flippin' midges!!!
