Took the train from Crewe today to go and see the Picasso exhibition, mainly, but to also just wander around - loved the Billy Fury statue at the Albert Dock. It's the first time I've been to Liverpool since the Liverpool One shopping area was completed - it's all very clean and tidy, but a lot of the soul has gone from the city centre.

I had a year in Liverpool 74 - 75 at the Art School pursuing a dream that didn't work out - but it were a dream - and I lived it for a short while.

One of the things I loved was the brick work of the City - the area around Rodney Street was my heaven on Earth - my idea of a good time was to take some photo's of a brick wall - fall into OConnors for a couple of pints - and then scoff a few Sayers sausage rolls.

Then I got into gutters and tarmac - white lines and road signs.

Ace as per usual efsb <*>

Does that say Picasso? I had a friend once who painted "Guernica" on his living room wall, unfortunately eventually he sold the apartment

I love Liverpool, I try to get there early when I go there on a course and have a look around the Pierhead and go to see the Superlambanana.

Many happy memories of Liverpool although I don't manage to get there very often these days. I love the Rodney Street/Hardman Street area but don't like Liverpool One. There is so much beautiful architecture around Dale Street and the Pier head; the old banking halls and shipping buildings such as the India Buildings are incredible. My brother still lives in Liverpool and we went to the Picasso exhibition earlier in the summer. Also visited The Harbourmaster's House at The Albert Dock; it was just like my Nan's house used to be :D

Last time I went to Liverpool saw Roxy Music in a tent on King's Dock on the hottest day of the year. We had lunch at a place overlooking the dock and Dylan Moran was sat on the next table. And I agree, the city centre is souless, looks like any other city centre anywhere.

saw some fantastic jugglers (how often do those two words fit together) at the pier head a couple of weeks ago, me and beaux used to go a lot in the 70's because Liverpool had much better 2nd hand record shops than Manchester, back in the days when you had to search high and low, but my favourite place was the Lyceum tea rooms long since gone, their rhubarb crumble and custard was a delight.
