This year is crap! It's only the middle of January and I already need a holiday. I've spent all this month's wages, it's grey, miserable and pissing down and I need to think of somewhere nice to go.

Every day I look at this

– my view of Canning Town from the train.

Whereas, really, I want to be looking at this

Archechon, near Bordeaux, in France.

You been anywhere nice lately? If so, why didn't you ask me?

I intend to spend the Royal Wedding there. The French know just what to do with royalty.
This is right on it, if you don't mind campsites – they do have chalets –

I've been there, is that the dune du pilat? I've climbed it, Europes biggest sand Dune.
I spent two consecutive summers in Bordeaux when I was 16/17 working in a holiday camp
we had a fair few day trips to Archechon, I was introduced to oysters for the first time, straight from the sea, delicious.

My thoughts have been turning towards holidays too, not sure my eldest will want to go with me this summer, he's in luurve, my middle boy may have a summer job and my youngest is going to Portugal with a friends family so I don't think we'll be doing the annual family bucket and spade holiday.

It's the end of an era.

I had a dream last night that I was on Holiday on the top of Everest. It was alright.

save money, google maps > streetview.

Visiting London and Paris next month to visit family and friends, it can't come too soon.

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

Staithes for me in a months time - based on a photo from Jean - and recommendations from everyone on here regarding Whitby - with hopefully one night in Sheffield on the way back.

I can't wait either.

Yes, that is where it is! I love it there, it's so beautiful.
Not looking forward to the day when my kids go off on their own. We have such fun – gives me the chance to do loads of stuff I can't really get away with in other bits of my life!
Watched Toy Story 3 with the kids on DVD the other night and I was on the verge of blubing the whole way through. You know, it's all about leaving home and growing up and not being wanted anymore. When he went to bed, my big one got one of his real baby toys out to cuddle up with and woke me up in the night to tell me he really loved me. Cute but think he sort of picked up on the adult theme of it, life after your kids have gone.x

Those dunes look awesome, and that blue sky really does it for me. January is a grim month indeed, and our holiday is many months away :(
