Egg - Venice is fabulous! It is so unlike anywhere else that is it like arriving on a film set! Shabby chic and gorgeous with great restaurants and bars. Mark and I totally loved it. We got our "water bus, bus pass" and hoped on and off looking at the sights, had lots to drink, wonderful food and totally loved it... :*:

I love Italy, especially the food etc., but Venice? Is it best for a few days,
a week, spring, autumn?? Where did you stay? :wink:

We stayed in the Ca’ Pisani in the Dorsoduro district.

It was absolutely gorgeous and brilliantly situated. It's close to a water bus stop and about 20 minutes walk from St Mark's square.

We were there for 4 days which was a good time amount of time to see all the sights. In spring the weather is like a nice summer's day here. I am told that it gets very hot in summer which makes it less comfortable for looking around. We went on a boat trip to the islands where they make the glass and lace. That was good.
Mark and I absolutely loved Venice. The food was great but it is very expensive when you are there. Well worth a visit though.

You look like you were having a good time. 8)

I loved the way the signposts pointed in more than one direction to the same place. It was fun negotiating our way through the alleyways. It is like a film set, in fact we saw some filming going on and had to wait before we could pass by. I kept thinking of 'Don't Look Now' and watching out for scary people with knives. My daughter had just seen 'The Ring' so was trying to avoid wells, that wasn't easy. :*: We were only there two days, but ran around and saw as much as we could.

Egg - you needed convincing! Glad I'm half way there! I want everyone to go....
Susie - you're right about the signposts. They also just vanish when you've been following them. We got lost in the alleyways the first night but once you get your bearings it's good fun! Thankfully I've not seen either of those films so I was unbothered by baddies with knives or wells... :*:

Lasting memory of Gondoliers saying "Gondola, Gondola, Senor? Senora?" everywhere we went and watching them singing opera on the canals (they were quite good - could hold a tune!) Once we saw 3 of them pass and all started singing together... :*: :*: :*: Lovely!

It's East and it's more than 10 hours away......I'm assuming it's a flight
