Keep saying it, but I must make time to go to Ireland for pleasure and not just work. Another flying visit yesterday. Early flight into Dublin, hour's drive north west, meeting, back home. Seen lots of the airports, hotels, customer sites etc. but never stayed or had long enough to enjoy it fully. Don't get me wrong, some of the places and the drives through the countryside are stunning, The Vee from Lismore to Cahir is one of the best roads I've ever been on, fantastic views. Cork, Westport etc. etc. etc.

Note to self........Just get it sorted for 2014!

There are a couple of cities I have visited through work and not had a chance to explore as.. well as an explorer.. was in Madrid last year for a week with work and then booked another few days afterwards to stay and hang out. Vastly different experience when you are just walking the streets to the beat of your own drum rather then the company timetable where you never feel free and only get the odd snippet of appreciation for whatever new place you are in. Two different mind sets completely. Dunno maybe if it's the same deal being a musician on tour and not being able to see to much and being at the mercy of someone else's schedule....

So in short yes I'd recommend getting yourself over and enjoying it at your own pace..

For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

The next time Hawley plays Dublin we'll have to get a bus up.

Then again I suppose a train and a ferry or a flight is the way to do it - but I just think a bus from Holyhead over on the ferry - a Hawley gig in Dublin - a couple of days on the bus following the tour - then back home - great.

Mind you we would probably want to kill each other after one day - end of forum...

Train from Crewe, foot passengers on the ferry, bus into Dublin - job's a good 'un.

I took the missus to see Hawley at Galway on Valentine's Day a few years ago. I've never managed to match this as a Valentine's present. Absolutely lovely place!*

Agreed. First thing every calendar year is make sure I have that weekend off work. Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell rumoured to be on the lineup next year.
