There are a couple of cities I have visited through work and not had a chance to explore as.. well as an explorer.. was in Madrid last year for a week with work and then booked another few days afterwards to stay and hang out. Vastly different experience when you are just walking the streets to the beat of your own drum rather then the company timetable where you never feel free and only get the odd snippet of appreciation for whatever new place you are in. Two different mind sets completely. Dunno maybe if it's the same deal being a musician on tour and not being able to see to much and being at the mercy of someone else's schedule....
So in short yes I'd recommend getting yourself over and enjoying it at your own pace..

In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.
