Plotting a week away later in the year, where's good?

Fancy a little cottage with the missus and the dog, nearish a beach and good walking opportunities, good pub nearby (possibly one with an old balck and white tv to watch some a euro 2012 game)...thats about it

Any recommendations?

You can't go wrong with St Ives. Beautiful place.

Oh, that looks lovely. Might venture there with my camper. Especially like the look of Polpeor Cove. Gorgeous.

I love the sea but it has to be westwards for me. Don't know why – maybe it's a sunset not sunrise thing.

St Ives is great, although if you want something a wee bit wilder try Gwithian on the top end of St Ive's Bay.

It's a sort of settlement with great walks all around. There are some quite posh houses to rent or little surfers huts. And there is a great pub at Godrevy that's a stroll across the sands.

Either that or Llangennith on the Gower.

It is the same sort of scenery as Cornwall but without the crowds.

Hope you have a lovely time. x

If you are not too concerned about the weather, Whitby is one of my favourites. Sandsend is very close to Whitby and is dog friendly. I love further up the east coast too in Northumberland. Cornwall is beautiful but is a long journey for me. I really liked st David's in West Wales too. I am not technical enough to add photos ( or an avatar for that matter) But I'll keep trying!

Beloved and I are off to Fowey in Cornwall this year. I spent a fair few summers in Cornwall in a tent as a teenager, but it's Sean's first time, and I'm sure it will live up to his expectations!

Trebarwith Strand (just past Tintagel) or for coastal walks, the stretch between Looe and Polperro and on to Fowey...bloody gorgeous

So sorry - the penny has just dropped that you called the thread Cornwall which means that you wanted advice about where to go in...er...Cornwall. Ignore my ramblings about Whitby and Sandsend. I will get the hang of this posting on forums lark soon. I hope....

Lou you have passed the advanced module [get off topic] with regard to any contribution to this message board in record time.

I think anyone who takes a holiday should go to Northumberland or The Kenwood Hall Hotel Netheredge.

The new Tesco Interchange in Widnes next to the meat rendering factory has lovely views of the Mersey and would also be worthy of consideration.

Cornwall's OK I suppose...

Just waiting for Beeshette to hunt me down now

Yes, we're nearly on page 2 and there's nothing on felching, spam fritters or monkey sex.

Anyway, the best thing about Gwithian is that the nearest town is Hayle, which has a shop that sells nothing but pies, baps and sweets – what more do you need to sustain a fulfilling life – and a proper lido, next to the harbour, where no matter what the weather, the water is Arctic, so cold it stops your blood flowing. And a chunk of the beach still allows dogs in the summer.

Grey Fridays are the wrong day to start talking holiday porn. It's not pay day yet but I can feel a booking coming on... x

Don't worry, you are right about St. Davids, it is a lovely around there, we have been a few times.

Cornwall is so far away and I hate long journeys. We went to Bude when staying in Devon, that was 12 years ago. I would love to explore some of the wonderful places in Cornwall.

We spent many holidays near when my girls were small - it was nearly always cold and wet but it didn't really matter. Saw the eclipse in 1999 from the beach somewhere near Newquay ( not recommended) - love the Eden project though probably not ideal with a dog in tow. Now we're posh and go to France cos the weather is better and the wine is cheaper but still would go back to Cornwall.
