A friend of mine is living back in Cork at the moment and for a couple of nights was temporarily driving his mate's taxi. He wrote a My Space blog which was called Taking Back The Streets - mainly talking about the state of the girls in the City late at night - but ending with the following:
"At about 3am I got a call to pick some punter up from a club in town. I had decided this was to be my last job. When I arrived he was standing there and on entering the cab he asked me to take him back to his hotel. He had an English accent and he looked very familiar to me. We talked about Cork and he said he was very impressed with the nightlife and the buzz around the clubs. All the while I was racking my brains trying to come up with the reason as to why this English visitor to my city looked so familiar.
When we arrived at his hotel in Rochestown the fare came to €11. He offered me a 20 and told me to keep the change.
"Excuse me" I said "I have to ask you, you look fierce familiar and I can't place where I've seen you before." "No problem mate. I'm Mike Skinner."
I had done it. I had taken back The Streets!"
