re hotel room , i thought he was talking about his guitar "I've got you here with me friend, cos you're here in my arms".. i thought he was referring to the fact that music is the one constant in his life, rather than lovers who come and go (obviously when he was younger and not married , ahem...) very interesting thread, just looked at the 'run for me ' one too, I absolutely love that song - first heard it at the RFH gig in January, in fact love Lowedges (well, love all of them really ..) but really interesting to read Richards account of how he came to write it... lovely stuff .

I think Run For Me & Oh My Love are my two top Hawley tracks. They seem to hit me in a way that somehow defies description ..>

I always see that passage in Happy Families as the late night ending of a wedding reception. Everyone's gone home & just a few folks remain, the oldest of the friends perhaps.

That's always been my interpretation too

Got it in one - I don't have favourites - but if I did

My abiding memory from the farm gig last June was 'Oh My Love' - whilst I was sat in my car looking at the night sky wondering if Samantha was OK - it confirmed my pang of guilt so I left early.

Got back home two hours later - she was OK - and wondered why I had come back 'early' - I think she was happy I had though...

On another note I'm such a sad bugger - I love bits of records - at the moment it's the 'ice cream van' 'dee daa' guitar effect near the close of the intro to ' Happy Families'...

[quote="Richard Hawley"]they can all be interpreted however you want

....and that is the beautiful thing about listening to Richards songs............his words can take you anywhere you want them to.....

they can all be interpreted however you want, i KNOW what every one of them is about but at the end of the day does it matter what exactly they mean?I often write songs that on surface level seem sweet but they most definitely aren't sweet at all........but its fine to take them wherever you want them to go

Phew... a friend has asked me to compile some 'background music' for their wedding on Friday, not the dancing or anything, just for the daytime and meal and stuff, I was hovering over hotel room (one of many RH tracks on the shortlist) and getting a bit paranoid because of thinking 'i can't go sticking a song about pumping drugs into yourself on someones wedding playlist, but so open to interpretation and still so gorgeous and intimate on so many levels. So it's gone on there.

Sometimes a bit of a surprise to find out something you thought was about Love or happiness is completely the opposite.

Same with any artform I guess though, unless you've got the artist sat with you talking you through it, then its up to you to interpret.

if you happen to passing Chester on Friday afternoon boss, pop by and give us a tune. (bring shez as lady solitude is on there too- sorry, i'm being self indulgent with my music choices  ).

When i first heard 'Tonight' spookily it sounded like something i was going through at the time, or my interpretation of it anyway.

Drive up to Dipton and watch the city lights below

I think the TV signal from Pontop Pike mushed me brain. :?

i like songs that are like an apple thats rotting from the inside- on the surface everything looks normal but cut into it and take a look inside and things are a little darker

not that your songs are rotten or anything... just analogising :*:
