Gonna get soppy here......

My Mum is in the final stages of dementia...Alzheimers......and this past few days has been in and out of Leeds Infirmary.....she no longer knows me and doesn't communicate....we spent five hours in the A&E dept on Friday night.....and I just looked into her eyes and said to her....one time - I want to make you smile...and I thought of this song......although a love song...it just seemed to mean so much to me at that time.... I just wanted to open her door and catch a glimpse of what used to be there....and make her smile.... :?

Oh Jean, I'm really sorry to hear about your Mum. I know exactly how it feels as my own mum has had some massive traumas during the past three years. Music is a great comfort at times like this. xx

this is the song that makes the wife break down. open up your door/ i can't see/hear you anymore- it just kills her as it reminds her of her sister who died suddenly. she was in pieces in york. wonderful song mind.

So the release date is 30 November but it's already in the charts - wonder if they are counting downloads from the album sales rather than the single?

If its correct, I think this is Richard's highest solo chart position to date for a single release. Previous best was Tonight The Streets----' which I recall peaked at no. 40 (?).

Yes, but that was number 40 in the official charts.

The NME chart for 7th December is showing

Quote:
22 (27) Richard Hawley - 'Open Up Your Door'

Hopefully it will go higher still. :D

Was awoken by this on my clock radio this morning :D But here's the amazing bit - my boss, you know, old grumpy gizzards - heard it & liked it! We do have something in common after all :*:

Terry Wogan played it on Thursday I think it was. He didn't play it through to the end, but that is not unexpected.
