That's great Steve.....my Mum had lived alone for 30 years and i am an only child so it was just me.......

Oh well....... :) Still smiling

I love your choice of lyrics too..... a simple phrase made very special by the performance.

Make it ten times a day for ten years  :*:

I miss hear lyrics all the time - the beauty tho' is that the 'miss heard' lyric still has an emotive resonance with the listener.

For me the glorioust part of the album, both musically and lyrically, is on "Soldier on" climax....

As the stars they slowly die
Thunder cracks across the sky
These are the words I've longed to say:
"Be with me, my love, always"....

I agree !!!!! For your lover give some time .... with only six words the songwriter says in this lyric so many - many things .....

This was ages ago now I know, but I have two favourites... same song... Don't You Cry

"He knows that she's so sad
She knows the clocks don't turn back"

and

"Got no dreams to speak of
Hope's teeth they start to bite.
Your heart of molten ashes
Its sparks showered you in spite."

Tells it like it is... Brilliance.

as the light creeps over the houses
and the slates are dark by rain
in this morning search for meaning
I hear a songbirds melody

Some of the best and most romantic moments in my life were soundtracked on this wondrous record...

I remember my excitement after listening to this one for the first time in a programme with Steve Lamacq,

"It was your birthday yesterday
I gave a gift that almost took your breath away
But to be honest I nearly left it on the train
For your lover give some time"

We sort of did give us some time after all, didn't we?
