Yeah we know, we all get like that sometimes  :*:

Don't worry about people being narrow minded - its them that lose out in the end - take the Tony Christie album for an example - it still gets my goat some of the comments we heard at the gigs, but the album stands on its own - as will weller's I'm sure. People grow - its only recently that the "revival" trade started but weller is nowhere near ready for that yet and hopefully those people will come to their senses and give the new stuff a chance!

Hang wellers new lp is not out for another 4 weeks :(

How come people have already listened to it and formed an opinion :?:

When I saw him live the new stuff sounded good though. You cant please everyone all the time, I didnt care much for 22 dreams but it got rave reviews. I do like Heliocentric - slagged off by critics and fans alike.

I think its really good I've only had a couple of listens but I think I'm gonna like it. I have a question..why should people have to compare it with what they may perceive as his glory years ? ok its not Stanley Road but neither is any other album.. aside form stanley road, you have to dig the new in this life as Joe Strummer once wrote.

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

im not comparing it to anything. its totally understandable that he wants to do new stuff and have a change of direction. i have absolutely no problem with that. i just dont like the album.

I'm not a great weller fan - I don't rush to buy his albums but I did like 22 Dreams and there's bits of this one I like. I suspect it's going to be a grower. The track I liked best is No Tears Left to Cry - more than a hint of good old fashioned soul in that song.

It's been out there for a while now - weller wanted it out last year but record company knows best - will be interested to see how this affects sales.

Time takes down some artists, some just seem to lose the creative spark. But not everyone, and certainly not weller! Last year he put on a damn near 3 hour show in Chicago, last night of the US tour, and he was more passionate than most acts I see in their 20s. Savages is a fantastic track, and he was 47 when he released that. Johnny Cash, more powerful before his death than ever. I'm a huge Bowie fan, and will always love him, but I do feel he's missed the mark for a bit, and I thought he'd be the last one to misplace his genius...so you never know.

Who does punk at 50? All stages of life have their own beauty and art...clinging to the past, or reproducing the same old like a factory is shit. But keeping the punk spirit at 50 by always being fresh, trying something new, that's what Paul's always had the balls to do. :)

The Tony Christie album is a classic.
