You are so gorgeously young, I could spit on a hanky and wipe your face! A clippie was the conductor on a Routemaster bus. So he drove, my mum clipped tickets. It's like when I say to my boy, when a song comes o the radio: this is a good record, and he says: what's a record!

And Robert Elms said Hawley was a post-modern Matt Monroe, which is a big compliment as he had a gorgeous voice. And my mum was in love with him.

I will bring more old lady phrases to the Roundhouse and you can pretend I'm your aunt. X

:*: Great, isn't it? Even I understood at once what you meant with "clippie", Helen, though my English vocab probably consists of no more than 172 words ( :study: ze forrain langwich!). But when I suddenly realized the reason for RP's question, it struck me like lightning.
Time is a bastard. :bigsmurf:

Matt Monroe: olympian!

Apologies if this is already elsewhere on here, but this really does hit the nail right on the head when people ask ''Why do you like that Richard Hawley, then?'' As someone more eloquent than I once said - a rare person. ..>

Ha ha! Well, that's a nice story that they worked together like that. I won't pretend I don't know what a Routemaster bus is. There is a limit!

It's good that you didn't offend the bus spotters! Lofty and Pops would be after you!! And as for Matt Monroe, check him out. As H quite rightly said, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett's favourite singer... and the driver of a Routemaster from Islington...

It should be noted that, despite now feeling extremely old, Hawley is the same age as me so if I'm an old fart... xx

Is Matt Monroe the guy who discovered those hills? Wainwrights mate? :eh?

Finally had the chance to digest the album in full after a few listens now. Sometimes with an artist whose music you love who has been at it a while.. you come a bit afraid if that not too strong a word..over time that they will become stale.. or shit or whatever.. but safe to say Hollow Meadows is.. The Bomb.. as the kids might say.. cant make up my mind as to my favourite song which is always a good sign... looking forward to Vicar St now...

I hadn't seen that, that's brilliant.

That is bloody brilliant.

Richard is right, if you can remember a melody then it's good. After only two listenings to the CD I found myself humming the melodies to Serenade of Blue and What Love Means ... loudly, at the photocopier in a large office. Who cares? The music is spectacular.

I will practice being patient today. I don't really need to practice though, I just am. I am a patient person. Patience is a virtue. Why am I even talking about this, I am now and always have been immensely patient. Nothing. Never mind. Where's my fucking album. No! I shall purge my body of all impatience. Inhale Einstein, exhale Hitler. Deep breaths. There we go. If I don't get my album today I'm going to cut a bitch. Wait, that came out wrong. Okay, starting over... :P

GREAT new album. Cheers Hawley.

Pity the two vinyl copies I've had are such bad pressings. Surface noise on sides 1 and 4 in abundance.

But you can't have everything!

The album is absolutely beautiful. Somehow simple - but with great depth to each of the songs. No surprise that its straight in at no.9 in this week's album charts.
